Welcome to The Nadura Clinic, Nutrition and Functional Testing Excellence est 2012.
With over 20,000 clients pass through our clinics with thousands of functional tests completed with excellent clinical outcomes over 15 years, we’re one of Europe’s most trusted functional testing clinics. And here’s what we’re most proud of: why trust us? Well more than 90% of our clients are referred by a previous client
If you find your mind constantly running worst-case scenarios, overanalysing, or struggling to switch of? it may not just be “overthinking. Mind constantly running worst-case scenarios, overanalysing, struggling to switch off and absolutely always in your own head.
it may not just be “overthinking” or social/health anxiety. A Key Gene Often overlooked In Rumination & Anxiety COMT – I wanted to share something we see very frequently in clinic that often goes unexplained the role of the COMT GENE and how a basic understanding of this gene gives you back control by helping you understand you’re not losing your mindT
Let me explain COMT to help you get back control.
The ”COMT (Catechol-O-methyltransferase) is responsible for breaking down key neurotransmitters like dopamine and adrenaline, as well as helping process estrogen. When COMT activity is slower often referred to as “COMT AA”, these chemicals remain active for longer:
This can present as:
- Overthinking and rumination
- Feeling wired but overwhelmed
- Heightened stress sensitivity
- Hormonal symptoms (PMS, mood swings, water retention, weight gain)
Importantly, this is not a flaw this same wiring is often associated with:
- High focus and deep thinking
- Emotional intelligence
- Supporting highly successful individuals, but at what cost
“The COMT gene controls how fast your body breaks down dopamine adrenaline, and estrogen. If yours runs slow like we see for many of our anxious clients these neurotransmitters build up:
Dopamine build up = overthinking, anxiety, emotional intensity. Adrenaline build up = wired-but-tired, heart racing, feeling ‘on edge’, trouble relaxing even when exhausted. Oestrogen buildup = PMS, heavy periods, breast tenderness, mood swings, weight gain
Slow COMT also makes you sensitive to stress, caffeine, and even supplements like high-dose methyfolate. At The Nadura Clinic we lab test in two ways Genetic testing (like DNA Health) shows if you carry the slow COMT variant from birth.
DUTCH Hormone reveals your oestrogen metabolites right now, telling us exactly how your body is handling hormones today and if detox pathways are overloaded.
Together, they explain why you feel this way and give us the precise roadmap to balance it.
In clinic, we rarely look at COMT in isolation. When combined with other genetic factors (such as MTHFR, eNOS, ACE/AGT), we often see patterns of:
Strong intuition and strategic thinking
Reduced stress resilience
Hormonal imbalance
Nervous system overload
For those who have tested and know they are COMT-sensitive, two foundational supports we commonly use are:
Magnesium glycinate – to support the nervous system and improve sleep
Activated B2 (riboflavin-5-phosphate) – to support methylation and neurotransmitter balance
The key takeaway is this:
If you’re experiencing ongoing anxiety, overthinking, or hormonal symptoms, it may not just be lifestyle your biology may be playing a role. And once you understand that, you can begin to support your system properly. If you’d like to explore this further, I’d be happy to guide you.
